Who they are

The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a large non-profit academic research body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education. ICCS has a strong presence in the European research arena coordinating numerous projects co-funded by all Framework programmes of the European Union.

How they are organised

ICCS consists of an academic staff of 80 university professors, 40 senior researchers and more than 500 researchers of all levels in twenty research laboratories. Within ICCS, the I-SENSE research group has more than 60 personnel and is very active in areas dealing with Intelligent Transportation Systems, sensor networks, emergency communications, alerting systems, communication protocols and gateway design. The I-SENSE group has participated in more than 35 projects to date serving either as the Project Coordinator or Technical Manager.

Their expertise

The I-SENSE group is organised in three research groups which are listed below (in parenthesis the scientific areas in each group)

  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (electromobility, connected and automated driving, mobility as a service, cybersecurity).
  • Smart Integrated Systems (wireless sensor networks, smart embedded systems, security, emergency communications, structural health monitoring).
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality (human computer interaction in VEs, cultural applications, industrial design, report maintenance support).

Role in the project

ICCS is the project coordinator of IN-PREP and will undertake research and development of the pre-integration phase of the Mixed Reality Preparedness Platform to achieve the interoperable information exchange of the system. The ICCS team lead on the innovation development and the micro-projects realisation for novel technologies, which contribute to the development of the Mixed Reality Preparedness Platform. Furthermore, ICCS will collaborate on six other work packages technical and non-technical.

Watch our IN-PREP project manager Mr Evangelos Sdongos talk about the connection between preparedness and resilience on our video about Preparedness.
